A Different Kind of Therapy Practice Has Opened in Rochester, NY
If you have ever sat in a therapist’s waiting room and thought, “This doesn’t quite feel like me,” you are not alone. For a lot of people, the idea of therapy feels clinical, cold, or just not built with them in mind. That was never okay with me. And it is exactly why I built Woven Anew.
My name is Jamie Gibson. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, a U.S. Army veteran, and the founder of Woven Anew Counseling & Wellness Services, now open in Rochester, New York. This practice has been years in the making — not just professionally, but personally. And I want to tell you a little about why.
Healing Looks Different for Everyone
I grew up as a foster child in Michigan, and from an early age I watched what happens when the most vulnerable people fall through the fingers of a system that was supposed to catch them. Not because no one cared, but because too many people had lost their passion, or were never walking in their true purpose. That experience lit a fire in me that has never gone out.
I have spent years working with children across foster care, in-home therapy, school-based settings, and more. I watched those children grow into adults. And as they grew, so did my understanding of something important: our childhood wounds do not stay in childhood. They show up in how we parent, how we love, and how we see ourselves.
Today, my work is focused on supporting adults who are ready to understand how their past is shaping their present — and to become the version of themselves they are meant to be. That includes veterans carrying invisible weight, caregivers who give everything to everyone else, parents who want to break cycles, and anyone who has ever felt like traditional therapy just was not quite built for them.
When we heal, our children feel it. When we break the cycles handed to us, we change what we hand down.
More Than Talk Therapy: The Woven Anew Experience
One of the things I hear most from people who are hesitant about therapy is this: I don’t want to just sit and talk. And I get it. Not everyone processes through words. Some people process through movement, through creativity, through stillness. Woven Anew was designed with all of those people in mind.
Our office suite in Rochester includes three distinct spaces, each designed to support a different dimension of your healing journey.
The Therapy Room
Warm, private, and unhurried. A place for honest conversation at whatever pace feels right for you. This is traditional therapy done with intention — no judgment, no projecting, no agenda other than helping you find your own truth.
The Relaxation Room
This room asks nothing of you. It is a complimentary space for all current clients, featuring a zero-gravity reclining loveseat, a waterfall sound feature, an aromatherapy diffuser with a scent guidebook, a sand tray, coloring books, and yoga mats with a guide. If you are already here, you might as well stay a while and let your nervous system remember what rest feels like.
The Creative Suite
Art supports healing. I believe that deeply. The Creative Suite is a multipurpose space for movement, painting, expression, and whatever form your healing needs to take. For the emotions that do not have words yet, this room gives them form. It is available for individual sessions, therapeutic groups, workshops, and community programming.
A One-Stop Space for Wellness
I know what it is like to be a caregiver, a parent, a veteran, an employee — and to put yourself last on the list every single time. Self-care is not a luxury. But for many of us, time is the one thing we struggle to give ourselves.
Woven Anew was intentionally designed as a one-stop space. If you are already here for your session, the Relaxation Room is waiting. The coffee and tea are on in the lobby. There is no rush. Come in, rest a while, and let this be your time.
The Relaxation Room is also available to non-clients interested in individual use or group programming. Reach out to discuss availability and pricing.
A Word to My Fellow Veterans
Service changes you. Sometimes in ways you are proud of. Sometimes in ways that are harder to carry. I served in the United States Army, and I know that finding mental health support that actually feels right can be one of the hardest parts of the transition back to civilian life.
Woven Anew is a space where your service is honored and your healing is the priority. You do not have to explain yourself here. You do not have to minimize what you have been through. You just have to show up — and I will meet you there.
